Katherine's Courtyard Level 2 EnclosureThe K.W. Dumke Fine Arts & Architecture Library and its staff are devoted to supporting exploration in the creative fields. Our focus is on the Fine, Performing, and Media Arts, Architecture, Planning, and Design. Come to explore our unique collections and consult with our highly-trained staff.

Katherine's Courtyard provides students and the University community with additional study, relaxation, performance, and exhibition space. The majority of the Courtyard is outdoors. On Level 2, there is a four-season enclosure; it is open to the outdoors during warm weather, and closed with radiant floor heating during cold weather. Enter Level 1 from the Starbucks café and the east book stacks. Enter Level 2 through the Dumke Fine Arts & Architecture Library and next to Digital Matters. Courtyard levels are connected by staircases at both end.

Marriott Library's ProtoSpace provides the University of Utah community with access to a fleet of plastic-extrusion 3D printers. Our knowledgeable staff can assist with many aspects of the printing process from idea to finished prototype. We also have a range of 3D scanners, 3D slicing work stations, and an online 3D printing service.

Students, staff, and faculty can also find a variety of sewing machines, a vinyl cutter, button makers, and 'zine-making materials in ProtoSpace.

In June 2026, the Materials Collection was retired.

However, researchers still have access to the Material ConneXion database, which catalogs more than 10,000 innovative, juried materials and manufacturing processes. Each entry provides users with technical specifications, sustainability data, and manufacturer contact information.

(Note, remote access to the Materials ConneXion database is restricted to current UofU students, staff, and faculty. All others may access the database while using a Public Computer Guest Pass within Marriott Library.)

The Simple Video Studio is currently closed and undergoing an upgrade. We expect to reopen in mid-fall 2026 at a new location within ProtoSpace on Level 1.

The Simple Video Studio is an easy-to-use media recording space where you can create high-quality and polished video projects without knowing anything about lights, cameras, or microphones.
