Katherine's Courtyard

Imagine U Studying in Katherine's Courtyard

Welcome to Katherine's Courtyard!

History

In April of 2018, Katherine's Courtyard opened its doors to the University of Utah campus. An extension of the Katherine W. Dumke Fine Arts & Architecture Library at the J. Willard Marriott Library, this custom-built space spans two levels and can accommodate a wide variety of activities throughout the year.

Designed for U

The courtyard was designed to provide our community with additional study, relaxation, performance, and exhibition space. With a variety of furniture types, student-designed exhibitions pedestals, and a large reservable area on Level 1, Katherine's Courtyard is the perfect place to gather, create, and enjoy.

Access

The majority of Katherine's Courtyard is outdoors. On Level 2, there is a four-season enclosure; it is open to the outdoors during warm weather, and closed with radiant floor heating during cold weather.

Enter Level 1 from the Starbucks café and the east book stacks. Enter Level 2 through the Dumke Fine Arts & Architecture Library and next to Digital Matters. Courtyard levels are connected by staircases at both ends.

Katherine W. Dumke

Katherine's Courtyard was made possible through a generous donation from Katherine W. Dumke. The gift has allowed the library to create a beautiful outdoor oasis for the community to enjoy.
