Important Copyright Information
WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research". If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use", that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

Interlibrary Loan provides access to items such as books, newspapers, journal articles, dissertations, etc. from a wide variety of sources that are not available in the Marriott Library. By use of a library system called OCLC, which may be accessed by you via the WorldCat database, we have access to millions of volumes. In most instances books can be provided to you within 1 to 2 weeks and photocopies of articles can be provided as quickly as 24-48 hours.
Who can use Interlibrary Loan?
Marriott Library Interlibrary Loan is for the use of students, staff, faculty and emeritus faculty of the University of Utah. Health Sciences departments are required to use Eccles Health Sciences Library. https://utah.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/uue/logon.html
What is available through Interlibrary Loan?
Not all items are available from Interlibrary Loan. Most libraries will not loan rare or valuable materials, including manuscripts, basic reference materials, or materials in high demand. Dissertations that do not circulate may be purchased from University Microfilms. Some dissertations are available for free downloading through Dissertations & Theses: Full Text. Journals do not circulate, but articles can be photocopied.
Many items can be provided from alternative sources, such as online full-text databases like JSTOR or EBSCOhost Web Databases. These databases are available through the Marriott Library web page. In most cases items found on such databases can be provided for you instantly.
Items requested through interlibrary loan should be for academic course or research use only. Please request recreational type material through your local public library.
Marriott Library materials that are currently checked out by other patrons can be requested through Interlibrary Loan. Textbooks are not available through Interlibrary Loan.
How do I order items from Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary Loan requests are ordered online. Because of the time frame involved in Interlibrary Loan and the built in cost to the library, please exhaust the resources of the Marriott Library before requesting items.
How long will it take?
It is difficult to estimate when materials will be available once they have been ordered. Most photocopies are now sent electronically and can be available in a few days. Books from in state locations usually take one week to arrive. If no in state location can be found, items may take 1 to 2 weeks to arrive.
Where do I pick up my materials?
Books will be held at the Reserve Desk on the second floor and notification of their availability will be sent to you via email. Borrowed items must be returned directly to the Reserve Desk. Patrons will be held responsible for overdue fees and/or replacement costs of missing books as a result of removing ILL labels or returning to any other location.
Articles will be posted on your ILLiad account online. You will receive an email notifying you of their availability.
Where is the Interlibrary Loan office?
Interlibrary Loans is located on the fifth floor of the Marriott Library. Patron access to the ILL office is unavailable.
You can contact us via telephone us at 801-581-6010 or e-mail us with any additional questions.
What are Interlibrary Loan's hours?
The Interlibrary Loan contact hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
How long will I be able to keep my book?
Unless otherwise specified, books circulate for four weeks from the date arrived from the lending library. Copies of articles are yours to keep. The lending library may request that an item not be allowed to leave the library. Lending libraries have the right to recall Interlibrary Loan materials and you might be asked to return items before the due date.
What about renewals?
Interlibrary Loan materials should be used within the time frame allowed and not requested more than once. If needed we will request one two-week renewal from the lending library. If you feel that the Marriott Library should own the material you are requesting, please suggest a purchase.
What about overdue items?
The due date for items is printed on the ILL book strap. Items need to be returned to the Reserve Desk by this date. You will be charged a $10.00 overdue fee for items not returned by the 2nd overdue notice. If the book is not returned by the 3rd overdue notice you will be billed for the replacement of the item (at least $50.00) plus a $25 processing fee. The $10.00 overdue fee and the $25.00 processing fee will not be forgiven.
How much will it cost?
There is no charge to request books or articles through Interlibrary Loan.
