The Special Collections contains a variety of maps pertaining to Utah and the West. The maps in the collection are catalogued and can be searched by using the library's on-line catalog UNIS. MAP SPECIALIST

In addition to the support available at the Special Collections reference desk, the Special Collections employs one full-time map specialist to organize and maintain the collection as well as to help patrons. The map specialist is available for any questions pertaining to the maps and can explain the different indexes and methods of organization for the collection.

On-Line Images

• The Marriott Library Digitization Center has digitized and made available on-line Salt Lake City Sanborn Maps^® for the years 1884, 1889, 1898, and 1911.
• On-line topographic maps for Utah (and the rest of the nation) are available from a number of companies using USGS data. There are also recent aerial and satellite photographs for many of the cities in Utah.
• The David Rumsey Collection has perhaps the greatest collection of historic American maps available as high quality on-line images. Wheeler, King, Froiseth, and other important maps of Utah from the 1870's can be viewed here.
• Healthy Communities Environmental Mapping has interactive maps displaying environmental information and links to EPA reports.
• The Perry-Castañeda Library at the University of Texas at Austin has a large collection of digitized maps.
• The History Department of the United States Military Academy offers an extensive collection of military maps.

• The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) makes many of the maps contained within the collection.
• The Western Association of Map Libraries has a toolbox containing numerous map aids.
