University Archives The University Archives serves as the repository for all permanent primary records generated by the University of Utah, and its collections document all aspects of the University’s institutional history. The Archives contains 3,000 linear feet of historical records. Typical holdings include records of administrative and academic units, presidential papers, and the minutes of the Board of Trustees and Academic Senate. The Archives is committed to the preservation and maintenance of these historical collections, so as to make them readily available for institutional and public patron use.
The University Archives responds to informational and research requests relating to the University of Utah and its history. The Archives contains over 500 fully processed collections with hard-copy finding aids. In addition to the hard-copy inventories, a growing number of finding aids are now available on-line via the new finding aids search/browse page. University Records Management University Records Management (URM) coordinates records management efforts throughout the University campus. URM works to ensure records procedures are consistent and fulfill the internal needs and external requirements of the University. URM is an important first step in preserving University historical records for the University Archives. URM maintains 22,000 cubic feet of active and semi-active records and 14,000 campus architectural drawings. The purpose of University Records Management is to provide the University community with guidance pertaining to records management and records keeping practices. The Utah State General Retention Schedule, American Medical Association, American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, and other Federal agencies establish records retention guidelines. With the assistance of a liaisons in University departments, URM helps U of U units apply records retention guidelines and advises them on such topics as records reformatting, destruction, and storage. |
