This collection was obtained from the Leo Thorne Studio in Vernal, Utah. Leo C. Thorne had a studio on Main St. in Vernal from about 1917 until the 1970s, when it was taken over by Lawrence and Rhoda DeVed, son-in-law and daughter of Leo Thorne. They operated the studio until 1995. The bulk of the the negatives are portraits of people taken at the studio, but there are also a number of images of the town, the scenery and the Ute Indians around the Vernal area. Some prints are available but the majority of the collection consists of negatives. Due to the fragile condition of the negatives, access is restricted. Contact the Multimedia Archivist for access information. A detailed inventory of the photographs is available in Photograph Register P0272.
