S. Marsena Foster Diaries (Ms 9)

University of Utah Marriott Library, Manuscripts Division

The S. Marsena Foster Diaries (1902-1907) is comprised of five notebooks written by Foster (born 1879). Four of these discuss Foster's mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Mexico City and the surrounding cities and country. The fifth contains an account of his trip to Mexico and the names and addresses of his correspondents. The accounts give information regarding the events, people, and places Foster experienced, and also provide anecdotes and information concerning persons and customs, including informative descriptions of the religious practices of indigenous Mexican populations. Accounts are also given in the journals of conferences, meetings, tracting, eating habits, sleeping quarters, and entertainments. They also tell of the missionaries successes and failures in making converts. A register is available.
