Henry Eyring Diary (Ms 8)

University of Utah Marriott Library, Manuscripts Division

The Henry Eyring Diary (1877-1896) contains the original version of the journal, a printed version of the journal, and a life sketch of his sister Bertha Eyring Bowman Greenwood. The journal depicts the major life experiences of Henry Eyring (1835-1902). Although Eyring used earlier notes and journals, those are now lost. This is the only known record of his life. Eyring was a pharmaceutic apprentice when he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in 1855, and subsequently became president of the Indian Territory Mission. Later he moved to St. George, Utah where he was elected mayor, and served as counselor to the president of the St. George LDS temple as well. From 1887 until his death, he served in several leadership positions for the LDS Mexican Missions. A register is available.
