Benjamin Franklin Cummings Journal (Ms 60)

University of Utah Marriott Library, Manuscripts Division

The Benjamin Franklin Cummings Journal (1857-1862) is a transcript of a portion of the personal journal kept by Cummings (1821-1899), a Mormon settler residing in Ogden, Utah. The journal covers a period of approximately four and a half years and concerns primarily Cummings' actions as a regiment member under Colonel Chauncy West in the Green River area. The journal also gives an account of Cummings' journey to the Salmon River Mission after Indian attacks took place there, as well as making mention of Indian encounters on his return home to Salt Lake. Few entries are recorded in the journal after 1859. A synopsis of the diary is available.
