Mormon Settlements In Arizona Collection (1857-1986) was initiated in 1964 by George S. Tanner, who was born in raised in Joseph City, Arizona. It holds diaries, journals, correspondence, account books, histories, biographies, autobiographies, and other items relating to the Mormon settlements in Arizona: Brigham City, Obed, Joseph City, Maricopa, Moenkopi, Snowflake, Sunset, Taylor, Tuba City, Winslow, and Woodruff. Included are the diaries (or excerpts) of John Bushman, John A. Blythe, John L. Blythe, Daniel H. McAllister, John McLaws, Jr., Mary Ellen Owens Bradshaw, Joseph H. Richards, John H. Standifird, Lorenzo H. Hatch, Joseph Fish, and other men and women. John Bushman's account books (two are business records of Joseph City and a third is an appraisal book for properties turned over to the United Order), and John McLaws' account book are present, as is correspondence between stake presidents and bishops in Arizona with the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. "The Minutes of the Little Colorado River Stake, 1878-1887" and the minutes of a committee appointed in August 1886 to review and disburse the property of the Sunset United Order are also included. Finally, the collection holds George S. Tanner's correspondence from 1955 to 1971. An indexed register is available.
