University of Utah Marriott Library, Manuscripts Division

"Brother Juniper's Tales of Navajoland" (1970) was written by Joseph Folliet, also known as Brother Juniper, who served 27 years on the staff of the St. Christopher's Mission in Bluff, Utah. An account of daily life in the area from 1943 to 1970, the typescript includes accounts of incidents illustrating some Navajo beliefs. However, most of the writing relates mission life. Subjects covered include water, weather, medicine, sheep, roads, irrigation, burials, and medicine men. Folliet, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, near the turn of the century, joined the staff of St. Christopher's Mission to the Navajo in Bluff in 1943. He came at the request of Reverand H. Baxter Liebler to help with the building of the Mission, and remained for 27 years. A partially indexed register is available.
