Utah Council Of Defense Records (Ms 107)
The Utah Council of Defense Records (1917-1919) holds meeting
minutes, correspondence, financial and other reports, and additional
documents. The Council of Defense was organized on a national level by
Congress in 1916 and was charged with preparing the nation for the
problems created by World War I. Utah's Council of Defense was made up of
standing committees for finance, publicity, legal matter, coordination of
societies, sanitation and medicine, food supply, conservation, industrial
surveys, surveys of manpower, labor, military affairs, state protection,
transportation, women's work, and local councils of defense. The
correspondence of many of these committees are present in the collection.
