COSPONSORED
WORKSHOP
Medieval
Metal, Modern Models
May
4th & 5th, Friday & Saturday,
9:00-5:00
The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers
and the Book Arts
Program present Peter Madden. Taking cues from the elaborate
religious icons
of Medieval and Renaissance Europe, construct wooden
triptychs featuring
imagery printed on fabric. Theatrical yet intimate,
these sculptural structures
recall books, houses, boxes, lockets, and shrines. Completed
pieces feature
images or icons highlighted by patterns, textures, and
embellishments. Learn
simple metal-working techniques and methods for hinging
covers such as
constructing handmade hinges from scrap metal. Create
a portable, personal
triptych and leave with the knowledge and inspiration
to create more without
the need for special equipment or tools.
Peter
Madden’s unique handmade books are collected by
and exhibited
in museums throughout the world. His work has been featured
in publications
about artists’ books and alternative photography.
He has received numerous
fellowships, grants, and awards. Peter is on the faculty
of the School of the
Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and teaches and lectures
across the country.
