The Utah Calligraphic Artists and the Book Arts Program
present Faye
Maxfield. Beginning and experienced book artists construct
five distinctly
different books with content. The structures are based
on the work of
several book artists.
Faye
Maxfield is a calligrapher, book artist, and teacher.
Her work has been
exhibited widely. She is a past president of the Utah
Calligraphic Artists and a
member of the board of the Association for the Calligraphic
Arts. She teaches
for the department of Visual Art and Design at Salt
Lake Community College.

WORKSHOP
Means
to an End: A Binder's Box of Recipes
April

Saturday, 9:00-1:00
Investigate
the structural and aesthetic purposes for finishing
a textblock
with an endband through discussion of its history and
evolution. Learn to
sew a variety of endbands that range from foundational
styles to historic
systems that can be adapted to modern book art. Leave
with a recipe box
of sample cards with directions, diagrams, and sewn
endbands for future
reference.
Pamela
Barrios discovered conservation and the book arts in
1976. In
1990, after holding conservation positions at the New
York Public Library,
Yale University, and the New York Academy of Medicine,
she moved to
her present position as Rare Book Conservator at the
Harold B. Lee
Library Conservation Laboratory, Brigham Young University.
Pam teaches
classes nationally and her artists’ books and
design bindings have been
exhibited internationally. She is an associate editor
of the Bonefolder,
