The bulk of
the Curriculum Library's holdings are comprised of textbooks that are
sent to us on a depository arrangement. These items have been approved
by the Utah State Textbook Commission. They include K-12 materials primarily,
however a few college texts are included as well.
In the Curriculum
Library, the materials are organized by various disciplines with the Elementary
texts arranged before the Secondary texts. For example, in the bookshelves
related to Language Arts: Spelling, Writing and Phonics come before English
Literature. Elementary Math texts would come before Algebra, Geometry
and Calculus. The Curriculum Library shelves have very distinctive signs
to help you find the materials you need by subject.
When the materials
are finished being cataloged there will be three distinct locations that
correspond to the location codes in the online catalog: CURE - Curriculum
Elementary texts; CURS - Curriculum Secondary texts and CURR - Professional
literature for teachers. You will find these designations listed in the
online catalog (UNIS) but, for the 1999-2000 school year, this will probably
only apply to the cataloged Language Arts section.
Cataloged
Curriculum (Language
Arts & Literature) back
to top |
The Curriculum Library is in the process of cataloging its holdings so
they can be searched in UNIS. So far, the Language Arts components are
cataloged. This is the biggest source of the Curriculum Librarys
holdings.
Uncataloged
Curriculum
back
to top |
The Curriculum materials that are not cataloged will be circulated at
all times through the Curriculum Library.
Activity
Kits
back
to top |
Kits can be checked out via the Curriculum Library as a whole or in parts.
Once again, one week circulation period with possible renewals.
Multimedia
Curriculum:
Software and Videos back
to top |
Due to restrictions from the software licensers as well as Marriott Library
circulation policies of multimedia materials, software and videos are
not allowed to be checked out unless approval is granted by the Curriculum
Librarian or his Assistant. University of Utah School of Education faculty
are excepted to this rule, for the most part. They are allowed 24 hour
checkout privileges or can negotiate with Curriculum Library staff if
they need these materials for a class taught outside the Library.
The Curriculum Library
has two computer stations from which users can view software: a PC for
Windows software and a Power Macintosh. If both of these workstations
are in use, the user can take the multimedia material to Level 1, Multimedia
Center to preview it there. The user will be required to leave an I.D.
with Curriculum staff to secure the proper return of the materials to
the Curriculum Library.
Big
Books

Big books and the Juvenile Literature housed within the Curriculum Library
is circulated by Curriculum Library staff.
Juvenile
Literature
back
to top |
The Juvenile Literature that is cataloged by the Dewey Decimal system
and housed outside of the Curriculum Library is circulated at the Circulation
points, not from the Curriculum Library.
Special
Education
Tests back
to top |
The Curriculum Library has cataloged and maintained a variety of Special
Education tests in General Reserve on Level 1. These are available by
searching UNIS, the Librarys online card catalog. Because of the
high usage of these materials every Semester, General Reserve is their
permanent home to ensure the highest level of access and accountability.
Non-circulating
Materials back
to top |
These are some of the materials within the Curriculum Library that do
not circulate, unless approval is granted by the Curriculum Librarian
or his Assistant. Materials that are not allowed to circulate can, however,
be taken from the Curriculum Library to the Copy Center for a short interval
if copies are to be made.
