About the Library

Dean's Message

We hear every day that we are living in the information age. Indeed, we have entered a new era. Today information is not only highly accessible, but its use is transformative—especially for students who are immersed in research and study.

At the J. Willard Marriott Library, we teach our students to be “smart for life,” with a solid grounding in critical thinking that will serve them their entire lives. Clearly, libraries have become agents of transformation, development, growth, and opportunity.

Additionally, the Marriott Library is an active participant in the U Signature Experience initiative, which was established with the mission to invigorate students’ college experience through exemplary extra-curricular programs. We offer a host of lectures, workshops, and exhibitions, as well as scholarships and internships in which students attain real-world work experience. And, as always, we work with faculty across campus in integrating our collections into coursework to enrich learning.

The feedback we’re getting is overwhelmingly positive. Our gate count is increasing rapidly and on any given day the library is abuzz with students who come here to collaborate, research, study, and complete assignments. Our mission is to inspire the creation, discovery, and use of knowledge for Utah and the world.  We seek to inspire smarter students, advance faculty innovation, and ultimately make a better world.
