Richard H. Tallant was an itinerant artist from Ohio who was born in 1853 and died in 1934. On his way to developing a major artistic reputation in Colorado, Tallant sojourned in Salt Lake Valley for at least two years, sketching and painting. He kept studio space at 44 North 200 West during the first couple of years in the 1890s though his home is said to have been in Estes Park, Colorado. He was a landscape painter, painted a view of the Great Salt Lake in 1890, and worked in Zion Park.
