MLA International Bibliography
This is the quintessential index for articles on almost any topic touching on language and literature including Theatre. The MLA looks at close to 3000 journals internationally in multiple languages. Dating back to 1963 all of its records are in English although the items to which they refer may be in other languages.

Project Muse (full text)
Managed by Johns Hopkins University this database offers full text coverage of more than 150 journals published by university presses, many of them relevant to Theatre and literature. Coverage dates back to 1993.

JSTOR (full text)
This is another source of full text articles. However, it is important to remember that since it is an interdisciplinary database and it covers fewer than twenty literary journals, it should be used in conjunction with other resources. Currently contains no materials in literature published after 1998.

ArticleFirst
This periodical index covers more than 12,500 journals in disciplines throughout the curriculum. It contains information dating back to 1990 and is updated every day.

Humanities Abstracts
This is an interdisciplinary index specializing in journals throughout the humanities including Theatre. Dating back to 1984 it offers good general coverage but not all of the material is scholarly. Depending on your needs this could pose difficulties.

Ebsco Host (full text)
An easy to use source for full text articles. However, because it is extremely interdisciplinary and much of its material isn't scholarly, its coverage of Theatre topics will be limited. It is best used in relation to widely researched areas.

Readers Guide Abstracts
This index covers almost 250 popular magazines including the New York Times. Although it isn't scholarly it's an excellent source for reviews and information about numerous aspects of popular culture. It dates back to 1983 but the print equivalent goes back to the 19th century.

Academic Universe
A subset of the larger Lexis Nexis database this periodical index contains articles on news, entertainment and business and even some reference and directory information. Like the Readers Guide it's a good source for reviews. It dates back to 1969 and is updated daily.

Dissertation Abstracts
The definitive source for finding references to dissertations. It dates back to 1861 and allows users to access the full text of dissertations written at the University of Utah, Utah State University and Brigham Young University after 1997.

Literature Resource Center
Meant primarily for beginners this amalgamation of resources provides short biographies, bibliographies and some critical analysis of the works of 20,000 authors from various periods and genres of the broad scope of literature.

Shakespeare's Comedies, Histories & Tragedies
This database contains the full text of the first collected edition of Shakespeare's plays published in 1623 after his death.
